JEE Advanced 2021 Postponed due to Covid-19 Surge | New date to be announced soon

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur on Wednesday postponed the JEE (Advanced) 2021 which was scheduled to be held on July 3 in view of the prevailing pandemic. However, a new date will be announced later.

“Considering the Covid-19 Pandemic, JEE (Advanced) 2021 which was scheduled to be held on July 3, 2021 (Saturday) stands postponed. The revised date of examination will be announced at an appropriate time” IIT Kharagpur said in a statement issued on its official website.

In April, a three-member committee for JEE Advanced had held a meeting at IIT Kharagpur to review the Covid-19 situation for conducting the exam. The committee observed in the meeting that there was a need to change the date, in the wake of the uncertainty that looms over JEE Mains whose results are necessary to conduct JEE Advanced.

JEE (Advanced) 2021 was supposed to be conducted on Saturday, 3 July in two sessions. The three-hour-long paper-1 was scheduled from 9 am to 12 pm while paper-2 had to be conducted on the same day from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Top 2.5 lacs candidates from the JEE Mains 2021 are eligible to appear for the JEE (Advanced) 2021.

JEE Advanced is a national-level entrance test conducted for admission into the undergraduate engineering courses offered by the IITs. The exam will be conducted as a computer-based test.

The eligibility criteria for admission to IITs will be securing pass marks in Class 12 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, a language, and any other subject. The 75% eligibility criterion has been removed this year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the authorities announced the relaxation in the JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria. Based on the relaxed eligibility criteria of JEE Advanced 2021, the candidates are no longer required to fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria of having 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) in Class 12 besides qualifying JEE Main to get admission in IITs.

Candidates who had successfully registered to appear in JEE Advanced in 2020 but were absent for the examination due to COVID-19 will be allowed to directly reappear in 2021. Such students did not have to appear in JEE Main 2021.

All the candidates getting a second chance to write JEE Advanced will be considered in addition to and not as part of the total number of those who will clear JEE Main 2021 in order not to affect this year’s candidates.

IIT Kharagpur has already released the JEE Advanced 2021 syllabus on the official website. Students preparing for the upcoming entrance test must check the detailed syllabus. The syllabus consists of a list of topics from which the questions will be asked in the JEE Advanced 2021 exam.

Candidates can also find JEE Advanced 2021 mock test at jeeadv.ac.in. The mock test of JEE Advanced 2021 will help the aspirants to understand the pattern and types of questions to be asked in the exam in a much better way. Solving mock tests will significantly help students to boost preparation.

Earlier, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had postponed the engineering national level entrance test, JEE Main 2021 due to the prevailing condition. JEE Main is a qualifying examination for JEE Advanced 2021. In order to appear for JEE Advanced, it is mandatory for students to appear and qualify for JEE Mains. As per the reports, the last two sessions of JEE Main 2021 will be conducted in July and August.

Last year also, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams had to be deferred. The JEE Main 2020 Exam was held from September 1 to September 6 2020, and JEE Advanced was held on September 27, 2020.
