Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ will interact with students through social media on 25th June and answer queries related to Class X and XII Board Examinations, which were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Education Minister, who is in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) undergoing treatment for post-Covid complications, said students have been sending him messages with their queries and apprehensions.

“Dear students, I am constantly receiving a lot of your messages and information. Also, you have expressed concern about my health. For this, I would like to express my thanks to all of you and say that I am feeling healthy now.”

He tweeted: “I was unable to communicate with you due to this ongoing treatment in the hospital. If you have any other query related to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams then you can send me on Twitter, Facebook, or also by mail.”

The Union Minister informed that he will answer the queries of students on June 25 at 4 p.m. through social media.

The examinations for both Classes X and XII were canceled by the CBSE because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board has announced its alternative assessment policy for both classes. While schools have been asked to submit class X marks till June 30, the deadline for schools to compile class XII marks is July 15.

According to the policy for class XII results, decided by a 13-member panel set up by the Board, the theory paper evaluation formula of 30% weightage will be given to class X marks, 30% to class XI marks, and 40% weightage to class XII marks obtained in unit test/mid-term/pre-Board examinations.

The CBSE scheme further elaborated that for class X, the 30% marks based on the average theory component of the best three performing subjects out of the main five subjects will be taken.

According to the evaluation criteria announced for class X students, while 20 marks for each subject will be for internal assessment as every year, 80 marks will be calculated on basis of the student's performance in various tests or exams throughout the year.

While the main focus of the interaction will be the CBSE board exams, results, and college admission-related queries, the minister is also expected to halt the long-pending wait of students regarding the entrance exams - JEE Main and NEET.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had postponed the JEE Main April and May sessions amid the second wave, and there are speculations that with the fresh covid-19 cases gradually coming down, the NTA may conduct the JEE Main in late July.

The union education ministry is expected to decide on CUCET. A government committee had submitted a report in April recommending CUCET from 2021. If implemented, all the central universities will be able to select students based on one national entrance exam.

The medical entrance exam National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 was scheduled for August 1, however, since the application form is not released as of now. It is unlikely that the exam will be conducted as per schedule.

There are speculations that the medical entrance exam might be postponed till September. Thus, it is very likely that Pokhriyal might clear some air regarding the same today.

Every year, around 15 lakh students appear for the NEET exams. Several students are demanding that the exams be canceled or postponed. Some think that the number of attempts to appear for NEET should be increased just like JEE Mains.
