Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Admitted to AIIMS due to Post-Covid Symptoms

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has been admitted to AIIMS in New Delhi following post-Covid complications. Mr. Pokhriyal had tested positive for COVID-19 on April 21 and had resumed office after recovery.

According to sources, the minister is admitted under Dr. Neeraj Nischal, an associate professor in the Department of Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). "He (Pokhriyal) was admitted due to post-Covid complications on Tuesday morning. He is admitted under Dr. Neeraj Nishchal," a source said.

Information about Ramesh Pokhriyal's symptoms has not been shared with the public. AIIMS officials said that the minister was brought to the hospital at 11:30 am today.

Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, 61, had contracted coronavirus on April 21 but resumed office after his recovery from Covid-19. The Union Minister of education took to his Twitter handle to announce that he tested positive for Covid-19.

In a tweet, Ramesh Pokhriyal said, "This is to inform you all that I have tested Covid positive. I am taking medication and treatment as per the advice of my doctors. I request all those who have come in my contact recently to get themselves tested."

Following his recovery, Ramesh Pokhiryal had resumed work and held several meetings via video conferencing. However, he has now developed some complications and has been admitted to the hospital.

The Education Minister was supposed to announce a decision on Class 12th board exams soon. On a plea heard by the Supreme Court on Monday, May 31, on cancellation of the upcoming 2021 Class 12 board exams, the Centre has requested two days' time to take a final call on the board exams. The Supreme Court adjourned the matter to June 3 after Attorney General appearing for the Centre informed the Supreme Court that the Government will make a decision on Class 12 board exams in two days. "Give us time till Thursday and Government will come with a final decision," Attorney General said.

Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ had asked states to send their suggestions, adding that a decision on Class 12th board exams will be taken at the earliest.
