CLAT 2023 or Common Law Admission Test 2023 will be conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities or NLUs for admissions into the various 5 year Integrated LLB and LLM courses offered by 22 National Law Universities or NLUs.

Here we are covering CLAT UG or CLAT Undergraduate for admissions into the 5 years Integrated LLB offered at the 22 NLUs.

CLAT is conducted once every year and the score is valid in that admission year itself.

Only NLU Delhi or National Law University, Delhi doesn’t take admissions via CLAT and conducted its own entrance examination AILET for admissions into its 5 years Integrated LLB, LLM and PhD courses.

CLAT Application Form 2023:  The CLAT Application Form 2023 will be available online for registration on the CLAT official website: www.consortiumofnlus.ac.in  from 8th August, 2022.

CLAT Application Form 2023 step by step procedure:

  • Registration: The candidates are first required to register themselves at the CLAT 2023 website (www.consortiumofnlus.ac.in) by using personal mobile number and e-mail Id. Upon registration, an OTP will be sent to the given mobile number for validation. Once the mobile number is validated, candidates can login using their registered mobile number and the password they provided at the time of registration.

 

  • Filling the Application Form:  Candidates can login on the CLAT 2023 official website using their registered mobile number and the chosen password at the time of registration. After Login they can fill up the application form. Candidates must fill the form carefully. The Name of the candidate and the parents should be spelt correctly in the application as it appears in the Certificates/Mark sheets/Identity proof. Any change/alteration found may disqualify the candidature.

Documents to be uploaded with the Online Application.

  1. Front facing passport size recent photograph with plain background
  2. Signature of the candidate
  3. Category certificate if you are applying under SC/ST/OBC
  4. Relevant certificate issued by competent authority if you are applying if candidate is P.W.D
  5. Relevant certificate issued by competent authority if you are coming under BPL category
  • The original certificates/documents issued by the competent authority as specified in the brochure are to be submitted to the allotted University in the form and manner as specified by the respective universities at the time of admission.
  • The photograph and signature of the candidate need not be attested while submitting the Online Application Form.
  • All documents/certificates should be uploaded in pdf format only.

Application Fee

  • Application fees can be paid only online.
  • Application fee for General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI candidates: Rs.4,000/-
  • Application fee for SC/ST/BPL category candidates: Rs.3,500/-
  • The cost of previous years' question papers is Rs.500/- (not included in the CLAT 2023 application fee of Rs.4,000/- or Rs.3,500/- as the case may be.)
  • The candidates themselves will have to bear the bank transaction charges for remitting the fee online. The actual bank transaction charges will be displayed in the payment gateway page after you choose the mode of payment.
  • Application Fees is non-refundable.
  • Choosing Exam Centres and selecting preference order for NLUs:  The candidate must choose the exam centres from the list of exam centres given as per their choice. The candidate shall fill his/her preference order for all 22 NLUs at the time of online application itself. No change shall be allowed in the preference once the form is submitted by the candidate.
  • Submitting Application Form and completing the payment process:  The candidates after correctly verifying all the details filled by them must submit the application form and complete the Online Payment procedure. Once the payment process is completed the online application for CLAT 2023 will be submitted. After this all the communication will be done on the registered email id and mobile number of the candidates and for further process the candidates will have to login on the same CLAT portal.

Before filling the CLAT Application Form 2023 the candidates must go through the CLAT Eligibility Criteria 2023 and various other important details like reservation criteria at different NLUs, Participating Colleges, Exam Pattern etc.

Eligibility

CLAT Eligibility Criteria 2023: The CLAT Eligibility Criteria 2023 is necessary for students to read before doing registration for the examination.

The Eligibility Criteria is important for any examination because even if a candidate does not fulfil a single criterion of the eligibility criteria declared for the examination then the candidate is not allowed to appear for the examination or even after appearing for the examination and clearing the same the admission through the examination stands cancelled or void.

Students who are appearing or have passed class 12th or its equivalent in any subject stream (Science, Arts or Commerce) are eligible for CLAT if they fulfil all the other required eligibility criteria.

The CLAT Eligibility Criteria 2023 in detail are as follows: 

Age Limit

  • There is no age limit for CLAT 2023

Number of Attempts

  • Candidate can apply many times, there is no limit for no. of attempts

Minimum Marks Requirement

  • For General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories, candidate should have secured at least 45% in their 12th class.

 

  •  For SC/ST categories, candidate should have secured at least 40% in their 12th class.

 

Qualification

  • Any candidate who have passed 12th or equivalent examination from any recognized board in any year can apply for CLAT.

Tie Breaker for Same Marks

In case of equal marks, the break of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under:

  • Higher marks in the component / section on legal aptitude in the CLAT 2023 exam;
  • Higher age;
  • Computerized draw of lots.

Apart from the above mentioned CLAT Participating Colleges 2023 there are several private Law colleges and universities in India that take admissions into their 5 year Integrated Law courses through CLAT 2023.

Students must go through the Participating Colleges and their seat distribution before filling up their choices for admissions in the counselling procedure. The candidate has a clear idea about the chances of getting admissions through this entrance examination after reading about the participating colleges in detail.

The Participating Colleges in any Entrance Exam also reflect the importance of that examination in a great manner as more important the participating colleges in an examination the more important that entrance examination becomes.

So, students must go through the Participating Colleges while applying for any entrance examination and do a thorough research about the quality of those participating colleges in the entrance examination.

After the CLAT Result 2023 is declared the counselling procedure for the admissions in the CLAT Participating Colleges 2023 will be done on the basis of All India Rank obtained in CLAT 2023.

CLAT Admit Card 2023:  The CLAT Admit Card 2023 or CLAT Hall Ticket 2023 will be available for download tentatively in the 2nd or 3rd week of April, 2023 on the official website of CLAT: www.consoritumofnlus.ac.in .

The CLAT Admit Card 2023 can be downloaded from the above website by the candidates by logging into his/her account using the Login credentials made while filling the CLAT Application Form 2023.

The Admit Card is an important document and must be carefully kept by the candidates as it is necessary to produce at the Exam centre while appearing for the Entrance Examination and without the same the Candidate is not allowed to enter the exam hall to appear for the entrance examination.

The Admit Card usually contains the details of the Exam Centre, Personal Details of the Candidate like Registration Number and Date of Birth and other important information including the Instructions to be followed by the candidate at the exam centre before, after and during the Entrance Examination.

CLAT Result 2023: The CLAT Result 2023 will be published online on the CLAT website: www.consortiumofnlus.ac.in . The Result will be declared online and can be viewed by the candidates in their personal Login of the CLAT 2023 Portal.

The Consortium of NLUs will also publish the Consolidated All India Merit list of all the candidates who appeared for CLAT 2023 in the form of a pdf in the order of merit of All India Rank and marks obtained by the candidates.

The CLAT 2023 consolidated All India Merit List that will be published on the CLAT 2023 official website will contain the following information: CLAT Admit Card Number, All India Rank and marks scored by all candidates.

After the CLAT result is declared the CLAT Counselling Procedure 2023 will start on the basis of All India Rank obtained by candidates for the various 5 year Integrated Law Courses offered by the 22 participating National Law Universities.

Admission Counselling

CLAT Counselling Procedure 2023:

After the CLAT Result 2023 will be declared by the Consortium of National Law Universities or CNLUs on their official website. The Counselling Procedure for admissions in the various 5 year Integrated Law Courses offered by these 22 National Law Universities will start online.

The Consortium of National Law Universities will upload a Counselling Invitation List on its website: www.consortiumofnlus.ac.in as per the All India Rank obtained by candidates in CLAT 2023.

The Counselling Invitation List will have a list of candidates approximately 5 times the number of seats offered in each category at the 22 National Law Universities.

Only the candidates whose name appears in the Counselling invitation list can participate in the CLAT Counselling Procedure 2023.

The CLAT Counselling Procedure 2023 will be completely online and it will be conducted on the CLAT official website: www.consortiumofnlus.ac.in . The candidates invited for counselling can participate in the same online by registering for the CLAT Counselling Procedure 2023.

The CLAT Counselling Procedure 2023 will be as follows:

  • Candidates will receive an invite to register for the counselling process through SMS / email. The counselling information will be uploaded on the Consortium website as well. Candidates can login to their CLAT account and register for counselling process.
  • The registration process consists of TWO steps:

STEP 1: Updating the NLU preferences, Candidates can provide a fresh set of NLU preferences. They can choose to provide all the NLUs OR can choose to give preferences of only those NLUs in which they are interested. Candidates are strongly advised to give minimum of five preferences.

NOTES:

i) If preferences are not updated, the preferences provided in the application form will be considered. Requests for change of preferences after the last date will not be considered.

ii) Candidates are requested to provide their preferences carefully considering all options and their marks and ranks. Updating of preferences will not be possible once submitted. Requests for change of preferences after submission will not be considered.

iii) Candidates will be considered for ONLY those NLUs for which they have provided the preference.

STEP 2: Make online payment of INR 50,000/-: Candidates will have to make an online payment to Consortium of INR 50,000/- to register for counselling through their login id on the Consortium website. Requests to make payments after last date due to transaction failures or other issues will not be considered.

  • Only those candidates who successfully complete the counselling registration process will be considered for allotment of seat. Candidates who do not complete / participate in the counselling registration process will not be considered for allotment of seat. Mere registration for the counselling will not guarantee a seat as candidates over and above the intake will be invited and registered for the counselling process. Candidates who have not received invite for the counselling process in the first round may be called during subsequent rounds, in case of vacancies, if any, arises in that particular category.
  • First Provisional Allotment List: Consortium will announce the 1st provisional seat allotment list considering only those candidates who have completed the counselling registration process as given above.

Candidates who are selected in the First List will have the following three options:

a) Accept the allotted seat (Locking the Seat) By selecting this option, they agree to accept the allotted seat. No further changes will be considered. Candidate will not be upgraded to his / her higher option, even if vacancy arises at a later stage. Candidate has to upload all the required documents and make payment of requisite fee to the allotted NLU. For details kindly visit the website of the concerned NLU.

b) Apply for Upgrade: Candidates opting for Upgradation are also required to make the payment of requisite fee to the allotted University and upload documents as per the schedule. Only candidates who have taken the admission and paid the requisite fee and uploaded the documents in the allotted NLU will be considered for upgradation. For the candidates who have chosen this option, his / her current allotted seat will be locked and he / she will be considered for allocation in any of the higher preferred NLUs, in case vacancy arises.

c) Exit from CLAT admission process: If the candidates choose this option, they forfeit their claim for any seat allotment from the CLAT consortium. They will lose their current allotted seat and will not be considered for allotment in the subsequent lists also.

NOTE: If anyone does not exercise any of the options above, i.e., (a), (b) or (c) within the specified time, it shall be deemed that those candidates are not interested in the admission process and their candidature will not be considered for admission. Candidates who did not get allotment in the First List will have to wait for the Second List and Third List.

  • Second Provisional Allotment List: Consortium will announce the 2nd provisional seat allotment list considering only those candidates who have completed the counselling registration process. Candidates who are allotted the seats for the first time in the Second List will have the following options and need to follow the same procedure as explained above:
    1. Accept the allotted seat (Locking the seat)
    2. Apply for upgrade
    3. Exit from CLAT admission process Upgrade requests from the First List will also be considered against the vacancies, if any, if the candidate has paid the fee and completed the required formalities in the allotted University of the First List. Candidates who did not get allotment in the First and Second List will have to wait for the Third List.
  • Third and Final Provisional Allotment List: Consortium will announce the 3rd provisional seat allotment list considering only those candidates who have completed the counselling registration process as given above. Candidates who are allotted the seats for the first time in the Third List will have the following options and need to follow the same procedure as explained above:
    1. Accept the allotted seat (Locking the seat)
    2. Exit from CLAT admission process Upgrade requests from the First List and Second List will also be considered, if they have paid the fee and completed the formalities at the allotted NLU in the said lists.
  • Refund Rules (Counselling Fee):

(a) If a candidate does not get a seat after the release of Three Lists by the Consortium, total amount of Rs. 50,000/- will be refunded to them without any deduction.

(b) If a candidate chooses to exit the counselling process OR does not accept any of the seat offered in any of the Three Lists notified by the Consortium, an amount of Rs. 40,000/- will only be refunded.

(C) If a candidate is found ineligible on the basis of the documents / information provided by him / her, an amount of Rs. 40,000/- will only be refunded.

  • Process to be followed by the candidates who ‘Accept the allotted seat’ or ‘Opted for Upgradation’

Candidates are hereby informed to keep the following scanned documents ready and upload the same:

  • 10th or equivalent marks statement
  • 12th or equivalent marks statement
  • Character Certificate / Conduct Certificate
  • Transfer / Migration Certificate
  • Caste Certificate (SC/ST/OBC etc.) if applied and allotted under the Reserved Category
  • PWD Certificate, if applied and allotted under PWD category
  • Domicile / Residence Certificate, if applied and allotted under domicile / resident category seats
  • Any other supporting document to claim your seat for the category you have applied (Ex: Wards of Serving/Retired Defence Personnel, EWS certificate, Sons/daughters of Ex-servicemen/Defence service personnel etc.)

After the Admission and Counselling Procedure is completed in CLAT 2023, the respective Institutes will announce the start date of new session for the Undergraduate Courses at their respective campuses.
