The Agricultural courses are very closely related to Veterinary Sciences also so there are many universities which you will find common for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries.

Who can Study Agriculture in India?

Eligibility:

Subject Requirements:

Any student who has passed class 10+2 or it's equivalent with subject combinations of Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics can study Agriculture in India. Only for B.Tech courses offered by some colleges in India a student must have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as a subject combination (except B.Tech in Biotechnology) in 10+2 or its equivalent.

Age Limit: For specific Entrance Examinations and Colleges/Universities please check their respective Age Limit requirements.

Educational Qualification: 10+2 or equivalent.

Marks Requirement: For specific Colleges/Universities and Entrance Examinations there are special requirements of minimum marks in particular subjects or aggregate in class 12th or equivalent

Major Courses: Students who have completed their school education (10+2 or its equivalent) are offered the following courses in Agriculture and its allied fields:

  • BSc. (Agriculture)
  • BSc. (Sericulture)
  • BSc. (Horticulture)
  • BSc. (Forestry)
  • BSc. (Food Nutrition and Dietetics)
  • B.Tech (Agriculture)
  • B.Tech (Food Technology)
  • B.Tech (Dairy Technology)
  • B.Tech (Biotechnology)

 

All these courses can be pursued only by students of the Science Stream (Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). For all the B.Tech courses except Biotechnology PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) are compulsorily required as subjects. Whereas for all other courses mentioned above including B.Tech (Biotechnology) students with both PCB as well as PCM combinations are eligible for admission.

Important Entrance Exams:

JEE Main: JEE Main or Joint Entrance Examination - Main is the biggest entrance examination for Engineering, Architecture and related courses in India. For Agricultural Courses through JEE Main admissions are given to students for B.Tech courses in Agriculture, Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, etc.

ICAR AIEEA (UG): This is the biggest Entrance Examination after 10+2 admissions in Agriculture in India. The Institute of Agricultural Research All India Entrance Examination for Agriculture (UG) is conducted by the NTA or National Testing Agency for admission into the various Agriculture and its allied courses in India offered by various colleges and universities including the ICAR Institute based Deemed to be Universities, Central Agricultural Universities, State Agricultural/ Veterinary Universities, etc.

JEE Advanced: The entrance examination for various Engineering UG courses in the IITs or Indian Institutes of Technology is JEE Advance or Joint Entrance Examination Advanced. At present, there is IIT Kharagpur which has a specific department for Agriculture and Food Technology that provides various courses of 4 years B.Tech and Dual Degree courses of B.Tech and M.Tech (5 yrs) in the various fields of Agriculture and Food Engineering.
