Manya has secured her seat at IIT Bombay. In this interview Manya discusses her examination strategies and some important information with the mock test attempts that the aspirants can follow who are preparing for UCEED.

Here are the excerpts from the Interview :

Harshita : Congratulations for securing AIR 1 in UCEED. Did you expect to be the topper of UCEED exam?

Manya : No, not at all. I expected a good rank as I had calculated my part A score beforehand, but not rank 1.

Harshita : The Competition in the exam is quite high. What would be the perfect strategy a student can adopt to crack UCEED Examination?

Manya : UCEED doesn’t require a hardcore strategy, I believe it can be cracked as long as you have good observation skills and the ability to think out of the box. Another thing that plays an important role in scoring well is the mindset one has during the exam. It is important to not get intimidated by the experience and be calm no matter what happens.

Harshita : Having the right set of Books and study material is always a must for any exam preparation. What Books and Study materials would you recommend for UCEED preparation?

Manya : I didn’t use any study material or books in my preparation, all I practiced were the previous year papers. I perfected my understanding of each question that has been asked before, this helped in understanding the questions asked in the exam as a lot of them were solved in similar ways. This also helped me open up my mind to different unconventional ways of solving the questions.

Harshita: Students start their preparation for Examinations like JEE and NEET mostly just after passing class 10th or sometimes even before that or after they enter class 12th. When did you start your preparation for UCEED and how did you go for it? Kindly take us through your journey

Manya : I started preparing for UCEED just after I entered class 12th. In the beginning I mostly focused on the coaching I was taking as the mentors there helped introduce the paper to me. I began practicing sketching somewhere around June and kept my practice consistent till the end. As for part A I attempted all of the previous UCEED papers whenever I had free time. It was after my first term board exams and the NID entrance exam, that i did most of my preparation. I re-attempted all the UCEED papers as well as the previous CEED papers, and then revised my mistakes multiple times.

Harshita : The Drawing section in UCEED is also a must to crack the examination. So, how did you prepare for the drawing section of UCEED?

Manya : As I’ve mentioned, I started practicing my sketching from June. I got a lot of help from the teachers at my coaching in improving my sketches. We were given one composition question a day and once we were done and submitted it, we were given detailed feedback on our mistakes. All I did was make sure I didn’t repeat these mistakes in my future sketches. Consistency also helped a lot, I kept drawing till the exam, so I never lost touch. As for specific things like human figures, I practiced them separately before including them in the entire sketch. I would take one weak point and draw it until I understood how to approach it. It was a long and complicated process in which I constantly made mistakes and worked towards bettering them.

Harshita : What is the ideal time to start taking mock Tests & What role do mock tests play in Preparation? What was your strategies in particular towards mock tests?

Manya : Ideal time for mock tests is just a week or two before the exam. That is the only time when we are completely devoted to just the exam so we can attempt the mock in a similar manner. The mock exams help give us an idea on how exactly we should attempt the paper ( which section to do first, how to tackle time management, when to avoid a complicated question, etc.). It gives us the opportunity to make mistakes, so we learn from them and don’t repeat them in the exam.

Harshita : What advice would you like to give the future aspirants of UCEED & share with us the strategies you used to stay motivated in your exam days.

Manya : The advice I would like to give is to not take UCEED as just another form of JEE. it is in no way related to engineering, so the strategies used there won’t come in handy with this exam. The exam tests the creative part of your mind and that is what we need to work on. Practicing the previous year papers will help build the habit of thinking in a creative manner. However, endless amount of practice but not learning the correct approach defeats the purpose. I urge aspirants to try and understand the paper and learn not just the approach towards one particular question but adopt the creative mindset required to approach any future question that can be asked.
