Here are excerpts from the Interview:

Harshita: Recently, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced that the CBSE Board Examination 2021 will begin from 4th May and go on till 10th June. So, considering this development, when do you think would be the appropriate time for NTA to schedule the NEET 2021 Exam?

Saurabh Kumar: In my opinion, the right time to schedule the NEET exam would be around June last week or July first week minimum.

Harshita: After the recent increase in the number of attempts for JEE Main, do you think aspirants could see an increase in the number of attempts for NEET too? If yes, then how many attempts would be considered ideal?

Saurabh Kumar: Yes, the attempts for NEET should be increased firstly to bring parity between engineering and medical students also one attempt is not fair and especially in COVID times one attempt is truly an injustice to students.

Harshita: Most students have already started preparing rigorously for NEET 2021, however, there may be some others who are just beginning their preparations so what are your tips and suggestions for them?

Saurabh Kumar: For the students who are starting just now my advice would be simple to read NCERT books for chemistry zoology & botany for physics they can refer to some refresher and solve previous 10 year NEET actual papers. Although the time is less you can give your best try by utilizing every second of the time available.

Harshita: Even though most of Class 11 and 12 NCERT books cover the relevant syllabus for NEET Exams. Can you suggest some books apart from these which might offer help and relevant knowledge to the students during their preparations?

Saurabh Kumar: NCERT books are good for Chemistry (especially inorganic), zoology & botany, VMC study package, If required then one can want you can purchase zoology on Wiley publications, physics on Cengage publications, chemistry objective by P Bahadur

Harshita: NEET Exam is a 3 hour long paper with 180 questions, divided into 3 different sections, namely- Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. What are the strategies a student should adopt to improve their performance in each of these sections?

Saurabh Kumar: In attempting the paper, the strategy for time management which works best is Chemistry 45 mins, Physics 60 mins, biology 75 minutes. Taking this as a thumb rule they should practice a lot of mocks & previous year NEET papers

Harshita: Students in Class 11 and 12 start NEET preparations while some start preparing even before that. According to you what would be the most suitable time for them to start their preparations for medical examinations like NEET?

Saurabh Kumar: In my opinion best time for preparation for NEET is from class 11th start and take it with constant energy and momentum for the period of two years.

Harshita: There have been many speculations that the syllabus for NEET 2021 will be reduced by 30%. Quite recently the JEE Main exam pattern has also undergone a few changes and 5 out of 10 numerical questions have been made optional. If the NEET exam pattern were to also undergo such changes, what are your opinions on that? And how would they benefit students?

Saurabh Kumar: The chances of reduction of the syllabus are not there as NTA has announced that there will be no change in the syllabus. However the first time in the history of competitive exams there is a choice in questions and this choice is given because the different board has cut different syllabus. By giving choice students will not suffer. If NEET undergoes this change than I will advise students to select a question from topics in which they have mastery and avoid question which has a lot of calculations and where concept/language is not clear.
