Here are excerpts from the interview:

Ojasvi: Congratulations Mridul on your extraordinary performance in JEE Main March Session. What was your reaction, did you anticipate such a result?

Mridul: I was very excited and satisfied with my score. At the same time, I felt the responsibility for my further challenges.

Ojasvi:  How was the JEE Main Exam? What was the type of questions and important topics?

Mridul: These year papers were on the easier side than previous years. This year there was a high focus on the theoretical section as well. In Physics and Chemistry weightage of the practical section was high as compared to previous years. In Chemistry, MCQs were completely organic and inorganic based. In Maths vectors and 3D Geometry had weightage. JEE Main specific topics were also asked in a decent amount.

Ojasvi: The pandemic could be a boon or a bane depending on person to person. How did you manage your preparations while attending online classes?

Mridul: I continued my studies in online mode. The pandemic was a boon for me as it saved a lot of time for transportation. During online studies most important thing is self-discipline and honesty with oneself.

Ojasvi: What are your future plans and aspirations? Why did you choose engineering?

Mridul: I had a fascination with science subjects. So I decided to pursue Engineering and prepare for JEE Advanced. My dream is to secure a good rank in JEE Advanced and get into IIT Bombay (CSE).

Ojasvi:  Did you give the February Session Exam? If yes, then how different was your result?

Mridul: Yes, I gave the February Exam also. I got 95 in Physics and 100 in Chemistry and Maths. My percentile was 99.99%.

Ojasvi: Can you tell us about your Preparation Strategies and when did you start? Which subjects did you find more challenging and how did you overcome it?

Mridul: I started preparing from Class 11. Regular revisions are the key to success in JEE Main. I found Chemistry quite challenging but I improved upon it by reading NCERT multiple times and practicing Previous Year Questions.

Ojasvi:  Choosing the right Books and Preparation material is confusing for many students preparing for JEE Main.  So according to you which are some of the best books for preparation that you recommend for JEE Main 2021 for each of the 3 sections and overall preparation?

Mridul: NCERT Textbooks and NCERT Lab Manual are very important for JEE Main Preparation. Besides that, I followed Physics Galaxy books for Physics preparations. For Chemistry, I did MS Chauhan, Neeraj Kumar, and VK Jaiswal. For Maths, I just did coaching modules and material provided by my teachers.

Ojasvi: To what extent are mock tests and previous year papers helpful in JEE Mains Preparation? What would be the ideal time for a candidate to attempt these?

Mridul: Previous Year Questions and Mock Test are very important. JEE Main asks a set pattern of questions so if one is habitual with Previous Year Questions one can very easily crack the exam. If someone’s preparation is not going well and less time is left, I would suggest, just doing Previous Year Questions and making self-notes. Mock tests are very important for increasing speed and accuracy. I did mock tests through NTA abhyas app.

Ojasvi: After JEE Main, how will you be preparing for JEE Advanced? Since the Board exams are right around the corner too, how do you plan to manage?

Mridul: I will manage time for both exams. I give one hour for board preparation and rest for JEE Advanced. I analyze Previous Year Questions and read texts beyond NCERT to get a tight grasp on important topics.
