Ram Jethmalani: Yes, the maverick himself, we know you must have heard about various interesting cases that he has fought and many controversies he has been into. But did you know Ram Jethmalani got his Law degree when he was just 17 years of age and was not allowed to practice law according to the Laws of the Bar Council which didn’t allow anyone to practice law below the age of 21?
But the maverick was so hungry for his first case that his first battle in the court he fought was for him to be allowed to practice law. Since the rule of the age 21 was introduced later he appealed to the Chief Justice that he should not be affected by the Law which was introduced later when he did enter the Law School. The Chief Justice did accept his plea and made some exceptions in the Law, so he was allowed to take his first case at the age of 18 making him become the youngest advocate in the history of our country.

So Dear Students, when you hear from people that you should have a lot of patience or else you cannot take up Law, do give a second thought to that statement.

Prashant Bhushan: We know many of you must have heard his name in the Coal Block de-allocation and as a former member of the Aam Aadmi Party exposing many politicians and industrialists. But there is an interesting story behind this PIL crusader, the son of Senior Advocate Shanti Bhushan becoming an advocate.
Prashant Bhushan went to study Engineering at IIT-Madras but quit after one semester. He realized that his interest was not in engineering but in Physics. He decided to do a two-year BSc program with Philosophy, Economics, and Political Science in Allahabad.
During 1974-76 Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s election case was taking place. He attended the hearings both in Allahabad and the Supreme Court along with his father – Senior Advocate Shanti Bhushan who at that time was representing the client against Indira Gandhi. Of course, He was only seeing a small part of Law because this was a high profile case. So, He went to study Law and for the next three years pursued it even while informally continuing study of Philosophy and Physics. He applied and got admission with a scholarship to Princeton. He realized the kind of people in the field of academics even there were basically playing intellectual games without really improving anything. It had become a word game. And, He didn’t want to play that game. So, He decided to come back, enrolled in 1983, and became a lawyer.

His life story clearly states that you eventually end up what you are born to do.

Harish Salve: We know you must have heard about him as one of the finest taxation lawyers and presently one of the biggest Legal Giants present in the country. While why you won’t after he has represented corporate giants like Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata, and yes of course Vodafone. Also, you would have heard his name while representing India at ICJ or the International Court of Justice in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. Currently, he is also the Queen's Counsel.

But did you know that Harish Salve before becoming a Lawyer was qualified as a Chartered Accountant? It was his interest in Taxation that brought him into Law. Also, he was very much inspired by the great lawyer Nani Palkhiwala.
Students, after reading this we are sure that now you will definitely go after your interest and not with the regular flow of life.

Nani Palkhiwala: He by far is the best litigator that our country has ever witnessed. The Lawyer is known to save the Constitutional rights of the citizens and its structure for many years. With fighting legendary cases like the Kesavananda Bharti vs The State of Kerala he is always remembered as one of the finest speakers in the Court of Law.

But only a few people know that Nani Palkhiwala was a dedicated scholar but was hampered by a bad stammer. At college, he earned a master’s degree in English literature and later overcame his speech impediment. Upon graduating, he applied for a position as lecturer at Bombay University but was not awarded the post.
Soon he tried to obtain admission to institutions of higher learning to further his academic career. Since it was late in the term, most courses were closed, and he enrolled at Government Law College, Mumbai, where he discovered that he had a gift for unraveling the intricacies of jurisprudence.

The Story of the Court Room genius clearly states that you are never late for something good there is always a better opportunity knocking at your door.

Shahid Azmi: You might not have heard much about this man until in 2013 a Bollywood movie on his life – “Shahid” was released. For the movie the actor, Rajkumar Rao even got a National Award for the Best Actor.
The Lawyer’s life story is so much inspiring as he did most of his studies while imprisoned in Jail. At age 14, he was arrested during the 1992 Bombay Riots. He went to Pakistan Administered Kashmir into a militant training camp but returned.
He was arrested again under TADA, serving seven years in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, on charges of plotting against the state, though he was acquitted later. He started studies while in jail and went on to become a criminal defense lawyer in Mumbai in 2003, defending cases for those accused of terrorism.

Unfortunately, He was shot dead by four assailants in his office in Kurla, Mumbai on 11 February 2010 at the age of 32. In a short career of just 7 years, he secured 17 acquittals in the court. For a Judiciary that is known to the people for delayed judgments and years-long cases going on in courts, this is one big feat to achieve in India.

If you ever feel that life has not been fair to you, do recall the story of Mr. Azmi and continue your fight.

We hope that the above 5 stories of these great Lawyers will inspire you a lot and boost your confidence.
